My nephew now lives on the farmstead where I grew up with my parents and brothers. He has been doing some cleaning and renovating around the buildings and called me yesterday to help out a little. Mainly, he wanted me to look thru the stuff he was planning on throwing out, so that I could rescue anything I had connection to! In the old garage, there was a shelf that sat above the hood of dads car when it was parked inside. It seemed to attract a lot of special stuff like gas cans, roofing material, and a couple old wood saws! After the shelf was empty, I kind of grabbed it to check the sturdiness and determine if it should be taken down. When I grabbed it, something was still on the shelf and slid a little bit, so I got a stool and climbed up to see what it was! To my amazement, I found this old Massey Harris owners sign that was so black with dirt and oil, that you could barely tell what it was! In the late 40's and early 50's, my dad was a part owner of a Massey Harris dealership in my hometown and this was probably a sign given out to new owners of Massey Harris equiptment. I'm sure he probably brought one home and it got a special place on the "shelf" and was lost forever, until yesterday that is! Pretty neat piece that I will probably keep forever (however long that is?) LOL

A great looking sign and the story behind it is much, much better. A real keeper for a number of reasons.

Cool sign and story Kevin! The fun part of that is cleaning the sign to reveal the prize under all the dirt and oil.

Hey Kevin. Growing up on a dairy farm, our closest machinery dealer was Massey-Harris. We farmed with all M-H equipment. My brother restored and still owns a "44" that Dad bought new in 1952. Sure wish I would happen onto a sign like that, but it's worth a lot to you just for memories. Sam

Yeah--I grew up with the old Massey Harris farm equiptment and my dad was still in the business when it transitioned to Massey-Ferguson! He used to go to the national conventions and would always bring some neat souveniers home but do you think we were smart enough to save any of it????? NNnnoooooo! I'm sure glad this little sign survived, it brings back a lot of memories!!
