I recently picked up two Wayne 80 pumps from a farm in Thrall, TX; supposedly they were still in use up about 2010. They were both leaking fuel from the hose and filter as I loaded them.

I have just started getting back into this type of collecting. My question is do these pumps have significant value restored as opposed to converting to a novelty piece like a kegerator or wine rack. I paid $500 for each.

This was the pump that I restored most because of the size and style. New and old collectors loved it. I even sent one to Great Britain in a GULF design to be displayed with the customer's motorcycle. I never made one, other than what it was. No book shelf or beer cooler. Always done to "Class A" work, in any brand imaginable. Done correctly, they were bringing $4195. when I sold my shop out two years ago. Your purchase was a good one at that price. Paul

The red Mobil Regular is a great looking survivor pump. I'd sell that to someone who'd leave it as is and buy another project one to restore if that's the route you're wanting to take.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree; I will work to restore them as pumps. Is there value in retaining the actual pump inside the frame? Should I remove them and keep them in case a buyer wants the internal components? Obviously the face plates and dials would remain but the actual heavy pump components, is there value in keeping those intact inside the frame?

Remove the pump, motor and expanding chamber. Scrap them. Only leave the computer and everything above that. Electric conduit, lights, gas manifold etc. No one has ever asked me for the guts to one of these. Paul

MS80s are fun pumps to restore, sometimes the doors are a little warped up and hard to straighten out. I've probably done eight of them. I agree with remove the guts other than computer and eletrical conduits. Rewire all of it using an extension cord is easiest approach. The novelty route is not good, it's better to just have the pump for display IMO. If you want to sell, the novelty part decreases the potential audience and increases cost. The buyer is typically a car guy that wants a pump in his collection, not a gas pump collector guy. Typically wife is involved picking out which pump-colors.

I'd have zero fear doing unusual paint colors, I never do plain red/white anymore on these. You dont want boring, not solid one color, red/black, green/black, yellow/black, silver/green, silver/red, something like that. Not boring, good contrasting colors.

So how would you paint a Mobil script top? Using typical shield pump plates? Don’t want to kill resale. Rick

I believe MOBIL script top pump was all red. MOBIL SPECIAL script top was red body and white doors. I'm not 100% on that but pretty sure.

Keep in mind hardly anyone know this, some create liberty unlikely to be an issue.
