Sorry for the delay! I had issues with different springs...

I wrapped this project up utilizing a spring from McMaster-Carr. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/9271k121/
However, I did have to modify it because it is a little too big. I was able to unwind a turn or two as seen in the left spring. The right spring is the unmodified version in stainless which I did not use for the final spring pictured.
