I am wondering how members handle paying taxes or avoiding on large sales. How to people who sell at auctions handle this I wonder? Thinking of selling some stuff and looking for a plan.

My understanding if you keep it under 20k for 2026 on ebay, etc, they wont send you a 1099K. They keep flirting with lowering it, but not yet apparently.

I think it also depends on how you take payment...the online ones like paypal, etc. It's one thing to sell a car through private means and use Paypal...but, if you have lots of transactions it can be an issue. And it an be hard to "sell privately" and get a payment that both partes are comfortable with. Especially dealing cross country etc. If you find out info as you progress through...please share.

What makes me mad is i have bought stuff and paid taxes when buying it and traveled across country to swap meets and had hotels and fuel and meals and done all this at my expense for a fun hobby. Then if i sell something the government wants me to pay taxes on what i sold for?
It's not a business ... i don't track fuel and milage and hotels and time. I don't even know if i would even make much money as i have overpaid for stuff i wanted so how can government say you owe taxes? Can't say prove what i owe because i can't prove what i spent to get some stuff. I keep pretty good records of what i paid but i didn't keep track of items i already paid taxes on the items i bought or what i really had invested.
Everyone better hope the young people really don't push for a cashless government as this would be the worst thing to ever happen!!!!

Everyone better hope the young people really don't push for a cashless government as this would be the worst thing to ever happen!!!! ... hate to tell you this but the govt. have already moved almost everything over to crypto with the passing of the bill in August (i believe Aug.) It's not the "young people" at all. Cashless USA is soon to be here. UGH
