Went to the GoodGuys show this last weekend north of Fort Worth. There were about 2000 classic cars there as well as a swap meet area. Several vendors there were selling petroliana items. I found a decent Coca Cola button and negotiated a decent price but next to the seller was another guy with a good selection of signs that were obvious (to me) reproduction pieces that were 'aged'. Anyway, when I mentioned to the seller that they were repop he became irate and we nearly came to blows. Mind you I'm 67 and this guy was older than me! I can not stand scammers and he was selling items to younger people and passing them off as original. I HATE scammers! There, I just had to vent.

When a swap meet like that has mixed vendors it is not regulated. If you go to a swap meet that is strictly gas and oil stuff (such as CTO, Dixie Gas, Rustbelt Americana, Peotone, to name a few) you will see some reproduction vendors but it must be obvious and declared as such. If that vendor was at one of the shows I mentioned and was trying to deceive people, he would be told to leave immediately and could not come back.

Had a similar experience at a Goodguys show years ago and at an Auburn show. Steve is right, good shows are regulated. What I've learned though ... people are crazy these days, I probably wouldn't say much because you never know ... and secondly I've realized I was wanting to rescue people that didn't want to be rescued. Most simply don't care, they just want to buy something cool to hang up. The purists that really care are the minority.

Speedracer, guys like that selling repops knows what he is doing and knows to not show up in a place where he would be called out. Car swap meets have zero regulation on repop stuff hence why these are there. I have always hated repop and wished all were marked and hobby has gotten worse over time...
Wish someone would start a page like TAC for repop stuff... show pics of repop and why its repop.
Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.
