Hey Fellas..
Just wondering if anyone produces the hinges for the front door of a Fry 17??
Or is there a good substitute? My door is missing and somebody had cut the hinges.
So, I've ground off what was left of the hinges on the inside of the skin..
Looks good. Just need to weld in a couple new hinges..

So this is what $100 hinge looks like.. I guess I'm the beta tester. It looks like they will work well. Their geometry is exactly like the original.. If these work out I'll be buying a couple more pairs at approximately $50 each.. if anybody wants to go in on the order, the cheaper they will be..
I'll post on the results when I have them welded in..

What I've done in past is gone to Home Depot bought regular hinges formed and bent them to allow the clearance and then mig welded the 3 holes in the hinge on each side to create the look of them being spot welded. A few bucks versus $50.00 for the same finished look.

Since time is money, I would gladly pay $50 for a set if I needed them. They look great.
It seems that is a common problem on a Mae West.
Maybe you should see what kind of price you can get on 25 sets. That might be a good investment.
My experience has been the price can drop drastically with volume.

Just thought I would share my budget Fry hinge fix with everyone. I've had quite a few Fry pumps over the years. The hinges are prone to rust off and they are not your normal plain hinge.

I went to the local hardware store and found a generic 2" hinge set. I then went to work on the Fry skin. The original hinges are spot welded on. A hammer and chisel are needed to remove the remains of the hinge plate.

The next step is to measure the distance that the new hinge has to kick out to. Once that is determined, it's time to bend the hinge plate. I bent mine in the bench vise. It would be easier on a small metal break but I don't have one yet.

After you establish the correct kick out and angle, it's time to weld. This is really not that difficult to do. I only had to replace the skin side hinges. Just repeat the process for the door if needed. My total cost was less than $6 and about an hour of my time. I hope this helps someone.

Exactly, what I do as stated in my above post. I change both halves of the hinge. In my opinion, everything looks more finished that way.
