Anyone ever experience this before?
A few years back, I bought a pretty darn nice LION lens to complete a globe I had. For about 2 years, it was on a shelf in my office in the house.
From there it went out to my shop to sit on an elevated globe shelf that sits about 9 feet in the air, and has been there untouched for about another 2 years.
Yesterday I climbed up a ladder to photograph the globe for a potential customer, and I saw that the front lens was cracked! It had cracked right at one of the mounting slots and had not fallen off the globe. I was shocked to see this and wiggled the pieces loose to keep from totally destroying them.
I suppose I had tightened the mounting screw too much initially, and over time, the glass simply cracked? Maybe there was a defect in the glass? Temperature changes might have affected it, although it stays at 50 during the winter and doesn't get much over 70 in the summer.
Anyone have any ideas or similar experience??
