Mountains and molehills. I tend to keep perspective, like I said, he didn't ask about the weight of a gas station, just a 30" sign.

I am going to be a little preachy here but I think it's justifiable. Humility is a far better perspective in responding to questions, then you don't have to make statements like "I do not apologize for my remark as it is how I feel."

My Great grandfathers generation were gruff (building a nation), my grandfather's were tough (living through the depression), my fathers was forward looking (they sent us to the moon), and my generation is standing on the cusp of the information age when we found we could put away the Encyclopedia Britannica and start taping into worldwide communication. Each generation didn't have to relearn lessons but build upon their predecessors.

Lets help the future not have to relearn every jot and tittle shall we?

Just for the record I thought is was a stupid question also. Anyone want to share about their forefathers,let me have it.

14 pounds. My 30 inch Parco with minimal porcelain loss weighs 14 pounds.

Thanks Wes my scales show error every time I step on them. I asked the wife if she would weigh holding a 30 in sign,she just gave me a dirty look.

My scale would not show a reading when I stood the sign on the scale on the signs edge? I had to weigh myself then weigh myself again holding the sign. Then do math. I saw you are a Pierce collector. Do you have any stuff from Mexico? I are hearing Sinclair did businesses south of the border as Pierce Oil company. I have a Sinclair Rooster sign but never saw a Sinclair rooster can or a Pierce Mexican can. I do have a wood shipping box marked Sinclair productoes. A couple people passed info on to me before, can't remember who all it was.

Wes I have some paper ,bills for petro oil, letter heads etc. I was one of those that seen your post and shared that the can to your box may only read Pierce Oil CO. From trying to follow trails of history of Pierce I have learned Sinclair Retained the Rooster logo and the Pierce Oil Co branding. How long? I have yet to figure that out. Just as they retained the Pennant branding in the U.S. Just my guess as to the reason is Pierce had two very large refineries in Mexico, and had built a following there. But to answer your question no I have no cans that state it was produced in Mexico. Just a couple of can facts that might help someone date cans. The wagon wheel logo is 1917s Green cans later till 1925 when Pierce moved offices to New York they changed them to the red blue color branding.

We ALL started out as "Newbies" to the Hobby and to Oldgas... I had many multiple decades in this Hobby, before I joined Oldgas and I was "teased at times, when I first started posting.. Honestly, it made me feel as if I belonged... (And when I made a mistake with an opinion and/or information; It was pointed out that I was wrong; immediately and rightly so...)

Most of the teasing was in jest, but one better "grow thick skin" quickly; If they are going to put forth an opinion or make a statement of fact... This is a "Collector's" Site and many, very many here. Do one hell of a lot of research on this Hobby and the Oil Companies that operated Gas/Service Stations... And they want the correct information to be put out there, from Oldgas; Correct and incorrect information reflects on the Site and on the Member putting forth the information.....

I am not ashamed of the fact, that I am still a Newbie to a few of the Founder's of this Hobby, who thankfully are still alive after 60+ years... Hopefully, they will keep going and my status of Newbie, will last a bit longer... These Men, tease me about my "short time" in the Hobby; Every time I see them.

They tell stories to each other and most anyone around that will laugh with them. Stories that they can embarrass me with. About me running around Gas Stations, Garages... etc... as a small child; Making a "general nuisance" of myself... I'm sure that there are some on Oldgas, (maybe more than some) who feel the same way about me, now... Though I have tried to tune down my rhetoric; In the last few years...

It has been my experience, that over 90% of all "New Hobbyists" drop out of the Hobby within the first couple of years... So no.... New Members joining the Hobby and/or Oldgas. Are NOT the future of this Hobby... The future of the Hobby, is those that have "weathered the storms" and haven't found something new to divert their attention; after 5 years or so... They are the ones who have grown a decent Collection, collected knowledge and an understanding of Petroliana....

Same reasons why many of the older members no longer post.

I sometimes wonder why I still read this ***** posts.

Steady on boys. As has been said, we were all new to this hobby and most of us are still learning. If you don't like the question, just stand aside.....

I just got a text from a member and he is amazed at how we as a group get so wound up about what we like so much.....

I am a newbie to this site. But I am into old mack trucks and have been collecting and restoring my own pumps for close to 20 years also. Myself, I'm not into signs, so I did not think it was a stupid question. I admit I DO NOT know everything. I thought that was what this site was for, to help and share our enjoyment with others.
