No light on this model. The face is reverse painted glass & there is no cover for the hands. Very cool clocks though, has gold & silver foiling too. Mine is cracked, so I would like to upgrade. (Im assuming, since you asked if it was back lit, that you were referring to the one in the photo with the large sign. The ones that are lit (other photo) are obviously back lit smile
