Hello - I have an opportunity to buy a sign similar to the one shown in the link I atatched. I hope it works, newbee.. Anyway this is not the actual sign but one I found online that looks very similar. The porcelain on the standard part is in very very nice condition. The flame part has some rust and peeling but also pretty nice. It is complete with frame and hanger but does not have a light on the bottom. Anyone have an idea on the value? Appreciated, Loryn

that is not a very common size , the light on the one pictured is probably an add on.dont know how much its worth but $2200.00 seems high to me.

are you sure it is this small sign or is it the larger version?

looks like small version to me, hard to tell.

standard sign in that shape = 600-800
2 flames= 300-400 each
porcelain top flame holder= 300-400
sign bracket and pole=750 or so...
catalpa tree= priceless! lol
total of about 2200-2800....buy it IF you like it!

Thank you I really appreciate the input and knowledge. It is the smaller one like the one pictured. He has the large one too, no flame and kind of rough, and asking $900 for that one. From my research I've learned that is a little too high so has me suspicious on this one. I haven't been able to find any of these smaller ones with the flame and bracket complete while researching so that made me think it was on the rare side. In fact this is the only picture I could find online. There is no pole however. I do really like it but new to collecting and don't want to over pay right from the start. And quite frankly this is a little out of my budget.But again I suuuure do like it. :o)

Loryn--I really like it too and if its in the condition that you describe, the price is OK but I wish it had the pole! A pole can be found but will probably run $500 to $750 for a nice one.

I was at the sale. Wow what a turn out. The only thing I walked away with was the repo Phillips 66 globe I wanted for a Phillips Bowser I have and saved a few bucks of a new one. Was a lot of nice stuff there.

You will find that in this hobby, what seem like todays high prices may be tomorrows bargains. Sometimes, if you really like an item, and you plan on keeping it, in a few years you be saying to yourself, "I'm glad I went for it, even though it seemed high at the time".I'm not saying the sellers price is high or low, since you have no picture. But from what you described, it sounds like a pretty good one.
I'm just saying, I can only wish that I could find every item I would like to ad to my accumulation at a "Bargain". Quality items increase in value. Junk pretty much stays junk.

I appreciate the advise JimT. That's pretty much what I've been thinking about and realizing I'd rather be happy to have it even if paying a little too much than wishing I would have bought it.

Yeah, Julie I and I look at each other when we see an item thats like double of one we "should" have bought but didnt. We call them the "Ones that got away". Oh. well-theres always others I guess.
On the flip side though, there are lots of country store items we bought in the mid nineties that dont seem like such a great investment currently. lol
But, I think, impact pieces like the standard sign kinda set the feeling for the room they are displayed in. A few extra bucks for something your proud to own and enjoy looking at is worth it to me. What kind of interest is your money earning in the bank anyways. haha. Buying to flip is ,naturally a different story.

There's too dang many! ha! Starting out it's hard to know what's what and where you are on the price on so many things I see. I have Jack's book on pumps and use it a lot. Is there a good one for signs? I've picked up 3 pumps so far and now need some signs to go with them. But learning as I go. Like everyone on here I just love the nostalgia of the stuff and having it around. I'm buying it to keep and think I'm going to have to go for it. But true like you said, probably as good of an investment as anything.

I would buy it for that price. Then if you buy it, get some lights and put them on and enjoy it!

I dont mean to sound cavalier about just buying something because you like it regardless of the price. Naturally you need to be in the ballpark and if your not sure do research .( Like you are doing) 2200.00 is a lot of money- to me any ways.
