At the risk of stating the obvious, once you have stripped your screws you have to recoat them with something to keep them from rusting. On my projects I have found the best way to both strip and protect screws/ nuts/ washers/ fittings is to have them zinc plated. It costs next to nothing and the plater strips them with acid then zincs them wihich can be done in silver, a yellow tint simulating cadmium, or black. You could also have them nickel plated for a couple of bob more if that's appropriate for your pump. Here in the UK I can get all the steel fittings and hardware for a pump done for around $15. Well worth the 2 week wait.
