When I saw that, I emailed Scott Benjamin and he just said it was a nice globe if it was real? The markings are correct on it and it would sure be a sad thing if it wasn't real. We sure don't need the very old and rare one piece globes being copied too. If his explanation is valid, I'd say its probably real but I think I'd want to see it in person before spending that kind of money, and it looks like hes wanting more, although he has lowered the reserve--so maybe its getting close!

You guys are right, he doesn't deserve a sale. I was kinda wondering if he had moved into counterfeit globes too??

Chris, not sure about the thermometers. But, this guy has sold a "ton" of items as original and the items were more than questionable, in a lot of collector's opinions . He even came on the site (middle to end of last year, first part of this year. Sorry I don't remember, getting older) and tried to defend his business practices. He didn't seem to convince too many at the time that he had "Turned over a new Leaf".

Here's a link that will explain who Treasuray (T-Ray) is and what he's all about. http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=158900&page=3

I'm no expert on one piece globes, I have one (Marland, not Red Crown) that is no doubt an original. The thing on this one that that raises a flag with me it the mold mark that goes down the middle of it. My one piece etched has no such mark.

yep, lemme join the chorus ... I know nothing about gas and oil collectibles but know a thing or two about route shields, and the US highway markers that Treasureray has advertised previously are, shall we say, not precisely on the level.

luckily his most common frauds are now seemingly sufficiently everpresent that they do not command much of a premium.

item 400137485636 - the usual "1954" movie prop replica (try 1978 or even later, they were stamping those out into the 90s) - only sold for 76 bucks, not 1100, so maybe there is some sanity to be found....

any questions about road signs - authenticity, value, etc - ask away!

the AARoads shield gallery - over 10,000 historic highway marker photos

San Diego, CA - US 80, 101, 395
