Hello,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if you could recommend any reference books on the subject of vintage advertising or collecting petroliana?

Also, with all the glut of 'fakes' coming on the market as of late has the value of authentic signs been hurt by this? I am just curious as to if vintage advertising/petroliana holds its value over the long term.

Any advise is appreciated as I am not really a newbie per se (I am highly active in the antiques and collectibles markets), but I am nowehre near that of an expert when it comes to collecting petroliana or even vintage advertising.

I thank you for your advice.

Well there is lots to read but right below your entry on OG is a great learning piece on the trials and tribulations in this day and age of reproductions and the power of knowledge or lack thereof.

If you are into gas pumps, try and find a copy of my Gas Pump Identification book, the last time I checked they were selling on Amazon for $130.00 a copy.

There is a e-book version for about $19.95.

I also wrote a air meter book if they interest you.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the advice. The thread regarding the listing of the fake sign listed for sale was also very informative. I was worried what impact 'fakes' would have on the market. I actually started collecting vintage soda advertising and just started to get into petroliana. I am taking it slow since I tend to collect the near mint or better pieces.
