Does anyone else think it would be a good idea if on the home page or portal page that has the latest posts on it - instead of displaying ALL the pictures for a given post it displayed one. IF you were interested, you could click on the post to see them all. Maybe it's not feasible for Jim to do it? It just seems that many times someone puts 5-10 pics of an item up and that is all you see on portal page without a whole lot of scrolling. Call me lazy, but I'd like to see as many new things as possible at a glance, and click on the ones I like for more details. I know the right side column sort of does this, but I still think sticking to one pic per post on portal page would be nice. Your thoughts?

What is the point of the portal page? I've never gone there.

the "portal page" is a main summary page that I use as my home page for old gas - it shows new posts including photos and then has a column on the right where it shows the most recent replies to existing posts, etc..... I find it useful as a starting point for my oldgas browsing. Click on "portal page" in blue at the center of the page.

When on portal page,
Click on 'all recent posts' under shop talk in the upper left column and then you dont get ANY pics and you can pull up as many pages of recent post as you want

Seems to solve your 'problem'

If you want to see the most recent posts without the pictures, I believe that is what the 'Active Topics' feature on the bar at the top is for...(btw I was long winded on this reply and Musky kinda beat me to it with a feature on the portal page I don't use smile as I just enter on the login screen )

That's the feature you are looking for I think.

Having pictures included in the threads on the portal page I think better attracts new members to the site. Isn't that the figurative definition of the word 'Portal' as in a view of entering the site? IMHO

The portal page is meant to be a sample of everything, where nearly all the content is generated instantly when you arrive at the page. The list of who is online, the list of latest post titles in the petro forums, samples of pictures in the image galleries, links to the newest 5 members, etc. It is a nice graphic summary, but the center featured topics are just a peek at all that is going on.

By clicking on "Active Topics" on the horizontal shaded menu bar, you can get a live look at all recent posts in chronological order without any pictures. You can click on topics that may interest you and skip over the ones that do not. Active Topics is a real time saver to quickly scan everything recent.

I didn't even know we had one.

Everything is fine as it is, Jim has enough to do.

This is my only problem for me from time to time. Because it seems that occasionally some very large pics get on there which causes the need for a left to right scroll just to see the latest posting column on the right. Other than this occasional inconvenience, it seems to all be good.

The need for left/right scrolling is caused by members who don't put a blank space or blank line in between their pictures. When I notice that, I'll edit the post to put in blank lines, but I may not see it before you do.

I agree, thanks for the explanation and suggestions everyone. Seems I just needed to learn a little more about how the site works. My suggestion was not to eliminate pics on portal page, rather to keep it at one.. I'll try active topics and click on the ones that look interesting. Thanks all!
