Probably be best if you posted a photo or emailed it to post for you. Is it a shield shape or the square one like on this pump? By the way, if it is porcelain the "specks" should easily come off so don't worry about that. ------------------ C Cragg www.poormansmuseum.com

I've seen them go for that much in good shape. I would check ebay and see what's on there right now. To me that seems like the higher end for these later plates, but I'm no expert on that. (By later I mean after the sheilds).
Check with Pegasus or Kysoilman (Rex), they know Mobil!

I agree. That seems at the very high end. They would have to be NOS. These plates in average nice condition usually go for about $35-$45.

I've got one on gasandoilsigns.com in pretty good shape for $55. The studs are gone off the back, so it's a wall-hanger... It's yours for $45 if you want it... ------------------ Wally Blackburn www.gasandoilsigns.com

Just to elaborate a little more on Kysoilman's response. This sign was used from 1955-1962 using Mobilgas and Mobilgas Special. In '62, Mobil Regular and Mobil Premium was on the plate. In 1966, the sign was redesigned again with the loss of the elongated shied. This was replaced with the blue lettered, red "O" in "Mobil" logo. Mobil continued using porcelain pump plates until 1975.

Just to make it even clearer ;-) (I don't meen to step on anyones toes) Plates in the form of shields with the Pegasus with either Mobilgas or Mobilgas special text, were used between 1946 and 62. The sign talked about in this post (square regular/premium) was used (as Gary said) between 1962-66. Some cofusion may arise about the wider shield in the latter plate. It was Socony-Mobils logotype and was gradually introduced instead of the Mobilgas (large)shield signs i.e. on poles in gas stations, from ca 1956/57. It appeared on oil cans and plates from 1962.regards, Claes
