How about padlocks? ive seen oil company locks & wonder how many different ones there are? --- has this been discussed before on oldgas? was i absent that day?
i like to put a old padlock on a pump after my restorartion. do any of you others use padlocks? ---- there are so many neat looking old locks around i usually come up with a art deco or very distinctive lock somewhere. ebays full of them.
one time i bought a $4.00 package of 2 NEW (same key) matching brass locks, i took one & filed the name off, wire brushed the ring to a dull finish, i clamped it in the vice & beat the **** out of it with various tools, i threw it down & slid it across cement floor etc... (nothing to drastic, just nick the edges up with a gouge here & a dent there etc...) then i stamped an old date on it (year of the pump) & then polished the brass up super shinny on the wheel leaving it dark in the cracks & edges. it looked really good & real old!
maybe we can get locks as collectible of the month sometime it would be nice to see whats available.

After I sold off all my gas pumps, I continued to collect memoribilia from the gas pump companies. One of my goals was to collect a padlock from all the pumps companies. So far I have been able to acquire a Tokheim lock and two National Pump Co. locks. This type of lock is what was supplied with the pump originally. One of my goals is to post on my website all the Pump Co. items I have. Jack Sim

Ryan i had some restored pumps with some old locks on them all polished out & i put the keys on my key ring & after a year or 5? years or ??? i was racking my brain as to what these keys were!!??!! LOL!!! I tried these keys in everything everywhere! (except the locks on my pumps) so i took them off my key ring & now where are they???????? ---- i saw these fat brass new locks at the hardware store (2 locks 4 keys!!!!!!!!) & i thought ALRIGHT heres what im going to do!!! so i did!
