My initial instinct is real since it seems odd someone would repop. that particular sign, plus the "texture" looks right, but then again I'm not a pro when it comes to signs...someone will know for sure...

Gotta ask how it was used, 8" double sided w/ holes top & bottom. Very bad artwork. I vote, FAKE I've been wrong before through. db

...I'm w/ Dick...smells like halibut...why is it double-sided, and why is the lettering so odd, inconsistant with anything I've seen...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I vote "repop" due to the poor design & lettering. Also, the sign has pressed in brass grommets.

That was me, the colors got me on the sign. Been collecting for 15 yrs. now, i can usually spot something like this. Back in '94 i bought a curved porcelain socony motor fuel lens from an antique dealer for $100.00! The colors were brilliant, the dealer told me his father worked for socony, i let Steve Perrault (some of you out there may now him)look at the sign (lens) but we couldn't figure out how it was was originally displayed, he gave me $300.00 for it.
That is what caught me in the auction: The colors! I mailed the seller and told him why in polite terms that i am cancelling payment on the check, if he leaves neg. feedback for me so be it, he can also offer a second chance to the runner-up in the bidding. Also, i would like to thank gulfiend for pointing out the problem(s) with the sign, althought double sided, those colors snagged me.

Mark, as mentioned i told him a polite way about the sign and payment. He just responded a few mins. ago and told me not to worry about it! He is returning the check to me when he receives it! I told him that i would post + feedback for him and i did. Wish all ebayers were tha up front.

Am I missing something here? Doesn't he clearly state that it probably is a reproduction? Didn't you read his description?

Yeah, he did state the possibility of it being a repro, and i will usually consult a fellow collector. but i was too busy thinking about my old find. he did understand and payment was returned. + feedback exchanged on both ends.
