I know most people really like the porcelain signs but I think the posters these companies made were pretty cool as well... These are a lot harder to find in such good shape since they are so much more fragile than the metal signs. Most stations threw them away after displaying them for a couple of weeks.

Nice job with the pics Ray. Nice looking group. I always thought this was an area that really hasn't come into it's own yet. I think there will be a time when they are appreciated and collected on the same level as signs. The "throw away" nature of these just like old movie posters I think really lend to the collectability. Thanks for sharing...........Dave

Neat posters. I collect old petro posters/lithos as well. They really show well when framed. Great find.

It took me about 5 months to collect all these posters. I purchased them from 6 different people. I am always looking to add to the collection. I will either "shrink wrap" them to plastic hard boards or frame them.

Since I am going to have 12' tall ceilings in my full-scale Sinclair gas station that I am building this spring I will surround the higher wall areas in the "retail sales" area with them. I have a number of Sinclair canvas banners to do the same in the two service bay areas as well around the perimeter of the station area which will be covered with the synthetic picket fence material.

Wonderful posters! I'd be a little concerned about shrink-wrapping these beauts to cardboard. The acid in the cardboard (and potentially damage from the shrink-wrapping plastic)could cause some problems over the years. If they make Mylar sleeves in that size, it could be an option (Mylar is best for maps) if framing is a little too steep.

Hey Robert,
I live in Maurice, Louisiana. I am very close to getting started. I have just about everything together. Drop me an email at "ray.hale@woodgroup.com" and we can hook up.

Since I am constructing a full-scale gas station I am trying to stay "true" to the look of them being displayed "back in the day"... That's the reason why I'm trying to not frame them, not so much for the cost concern. One of the guys I purchased a number of the posters from suggested a process of using the hard, smooth white corrugated board they sell at Michael's Hobby Shops. He said he gets a number of his posters mounted on them. He told me that Michael's offers the service of mounting them on this white board and then using a special plastic "shrink" material that when heated will shrink to fit. He said that it works great in holding the posters smooth and flat without any damage to them. I liked the idea of not having to place pin/nail holes in them to hang them up and still look like a "frameless" original install... I would like to know if that material would have any long term effect on the poster material. I sure wouldn't want to hurt them! Thanks for the suggestions on what you use with your maps. I am definitely open for suggestions and will research this further prior to doing anything. Ray
