Hello,

I would be grateful for any help in authenticatin and valuing the OIlzum sign in the attached photos. Size is 12" x 8". It is made of heavy gauge steel or iron with a layer of porcelain. The front feels faintly uneven when you run your hand over the printed pattern, as if it were composed of layers of paint.

I have lots of antique expertise, but almost none in porcelain signs and none whatever in petroliana. My instinct is that a sign this pristine and with such symmetrical damage cannot be authentic. Also, the back and lack of maker's mark makes me suspicious.

Can someone more knowledgeable please advise me on whether my instinct is right, or it's actually genuine? And if it is genuine, it would be great to know its value. I assume a reproduction is effectively worthless.

Thank you!

That color of rust is a sure sign of someone trying to fake age it.
