Good day. Have been a member here for some time. I am thinking of thinning the herd of some of my Texaco items. My plans to build a shop probably aren't going to happen. I have a bunch (13-14 or so) of Texaco banners...many NOS and the others are in great shape...maybe a bit dusty...LOL. Trying to figure a "fair/reasonable" value. I know what I pad for them, and I am sure they have increased in value. I have looked at auction sites, Google, eBay...etc. I used to host the Values section on this site and often found when people asked for a value that some members got mad that the person then didn't offer it for sale here and put it on eBay, etc. Not looking to start an argument. I understand why people could feel that way. If I go the eBay route, I could start them at a dollar and see where the market goes....or set a high buy-it-now and accept offers and just use my judgment...don't have to accept....I have even thought that if an "Oldgasser" bought it on eBay after I asked for a value here that I could give them a kickback of 5-10%.......just a thought.

I have thought of an auction house to bundle up the whole batch...or part of them and see how that goes. Having a batch may be of interest. to an auction site...maybe even just one and try it? then the question is which auction house is "best", whatever that means. Fees...good results and has a good reputation.... I would sincerely appreciate your thoughts and opinions. And I mean all opinions and thoughts. .I have always valued this forum. I will now yield the floor, sit back and read, with great interest, the wisdom of this group. (Did I suck up enough?) (juice) yeild when buying - there #1 .. ...

In regard to venue, could probably make a case for several options. But my primary thought is this...what you're wanting to sell is somewhat compartmentalized and you have a larger quantity...I would maybe sell a couple (few) at a time vs flooding the market with a whole bunch at one time.

You have been in this game long enough and should know prices fairly well, plus you know what you paid. Not hard to do a bit of research on auctions.
Price your items and sell on here or take to a swap meet. Unless your one of those guys that needs the last nickel then put everything in auction and good luck.

Ohio Oil makes a valid point. I just tried to sell 50 S&P sets here and didn't get a sniff. Sometimes a large lot of a neat item is simply too many too fast, glutting the market. I'm going to try selling my stuff in smaller groups one lot at a time. Good luck with your banners.

It's a personal decision. I have heard a lot of collectors begrudge others that sell at auction because they say "that person was only in it for the money".....And then they end up doing the same thing when it's their money.... LOL. Here's my opinion. You will pay 15-20% to put it in auction, get a check from the auction house; so probably have a tax bill on the income. I personally like the idea of selling privately and discounting to the private buyer a little. The seller ends up with more "NET" money and you place your collection where you want it to go..... Just my thoughts. Good luck!
