I had a table set up outside at Iowa Gas many years ago, and received a letter from the Iowa tax department. They were looking for sales taxes that I guess I was supposed to take when selling stuff. I'm wondering if anyone has received anything like that in the past couple of years?

Hi, Alan. Maybe the IOWA Department of Revenue is finally just getting around to cross-checking the IOWA GAS vendor list from the year you vended to the sales tax payments they received that same year. Seems like a lot of states are looking to turn over every rock they can to generate more revenue. FYI: It has been standard practice for some years for IG vendors to receive a written warning in their registration packages to remit IOWA sales tax. I believe more recently this "warning" from the IG owners indicates they have to provide registered vendor names and addresses to the IOWA Dept. of Rev. for compliance purposes. It's the same way as things are handled for vendors at swap meets here in Wisconsin. Yet another reduction in profits (5.5%) for vendors. John
