I'm beginning a restoration of my Bennett 541.
Two questions (for now)

1. How is the hose collar/hose connector removed so I can remove the panel from the frame? (photos)

2. What type and size of machine screws (with wing nuts) hold the glass retaining frames in place? Truss head #8s ?

More questions will be coming I'm sure!!

The collar is held on by and allen screw. You're probably looking at the top portion of the collar but it's on the bottom side. You may have to scrap a little paint to get to it. The window frame is held on by wing nuts, but I have switch to regular nuts. Sometimes when you shut the door, they will get hung up on the face plate. Don't remember what size. Richard

The collar came off easily.

On the glass retaining flang I am missing what must be a thin backing plate with thru bolts (that the wing nuts attach). I bought new glass retainers from Gas Pump Heaven but they do not list the backing plate with the thru bolts. I suppose I can make those?

Looks like in the catalog they call it a retainer strip assembly. Anyone making those???

I believe I cam make them if needed.

I have a Bennett 371 which was missing two sets of those ad glass retaining bars. I made mine out of 1/8" thick aluminum bar stock (11.5 x 3/4"). In place of the studs, I tapped two holes in each bar and attached 6-32 (I believe) round head screws. Then used wingnuts to clamp the assembly together. Also, I didn't bother angle-cutting the ends.

Joe, thanks again for the aluminum suggestion. I finished mine up. I used #8-32 stainless screws, lock washers and nuts with thread locker to prevent the screws from backing out.

Yeah I may have used split washers on the screw head side - honestly don't remember. But I think I figured that since I wrapped the ad glass with edge gasketing, the nuts would only need to be hand tight to keep things snug - hence the wing nuts.
