So I have had a hard time trying to find a solid answer on this that u was confident in trying so I figured I would toss it to the community to see if anyone had experience in the past removing old decals off thier pumps.
I have this Shell decal on my pump and due to the sentimental aspect of the pump with it being from my great aunt, i am trying to find a way to save the thing if i can. My goal is to try to get it off in one piece as best I can and find a way to frame it (I have some ideas but I'll cross that bridge when/if I get there). Worst case this doesn't work and I'm disappointed but ok with that - just figure I have nothing to lose here.
Any advice? I don't believe I can get under it on one of the layers of pain and scrape it off in one unit and I have heard that heat can help potentially but not sure I trust it.
I have a picture of it attached to give a bit of context as well. I know the bottom there is a bit rough but the bulk of the deal is still in great shape.

If it was important to me I'd cut the panel the exact size of the decal and source another door.

Even with a heat gun I don’t think you would keep it intact.
Hang panel on wall to look at. Get another panel to replace, or put that side facing wall.

You could take it to a place that makes vinyl signs. They can make a copy.

If it was important to me I'd cut the panel the exact size of the decal and source another door. Yes, I agree with this. Or cut it out and put in a patch panel to save the door. If you cut it with an angle die grinder, you'll have a heat affect zone of maybe a 1/16 of an inch, which can be covered up with a frame easily. The die drinders are like $30 at HF.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I was worried I probably couldn't do much to save it but I always believe its best to exhaust every option.
I hadnt thought of removing the section from the door. As its a pump that has a family connection I am hesitant to save the door (more likely to save the other door actually as I have the paint worked down to the point the old mid 60s era paint scheme is clear. I'm also not accomplished on metal work, but such a project of cutting it out may be a fun way to get my hands dirty. Something I'll be thinking more about the rest of the winter before I can get back to work on things.
