Hello to everyone, I'm Piero from Italy!
A few years ago I bought a Texaco sign, and I would like to know from you if it is an original piece or a fake one
I'll post the pictures of the sign here, If it's not good or incorrect I'll move the message...
Can anybody say to me if this is fake or original? Thanks in advance!

I think Tin, but I'm not sure... the sign is really heavy... how can I determinate if is tin or porcelain?

Look at your closeup photo with the "REG. T. M. " lettering. The drilled hole with no paint in the hole, and no chipping around the hole, is an indication of a painted, not porcelain, sign.

Send a note to the Fisogni Museum in Milan, Guido Fisogni would be able to tell you whether it’s real or fake. Also, if you’re in a Italy, it’s always worth a visit to see Italian and European petroliana.

It’s definitely tin, because of the close up. No chipping, and porcelain usually doesn’t scratch that easily all over the place.

As far as foreign signs go…. I know nothing. But I will point out two observations about Texaco signs here in the USA…. The white surrounding the large T in the middle is always the same as the background white. The white around the T on this sign is brighter than the rest. I also cannot recall a cookie-cutter Texaco sign with a lip around the edge here in the USA.

This doesn’t mean there’s not a different manufacturing process there in Europe, if it was made there, I’m just pointing out to things I noticed. I’m sure the experts over there can provide more information.

Good luck,
-Steve

Good observation Randy, but the tips of the star on the 42” Gasoline / Motor Oil ones vary a lot.

texaco 42" gasoline / motor oil sign

the gasoline / motor oil with the U.S.A. the tips of the star are different at bottom from the other 3 which is uniformed

sign of subject with one tip of star different from other 4 is not uniformed

which, IMO - sign is either a 2nd or bogus .. ... cool

Looks like a lid of a barrel, I had one very similar a long time ago, it was in very worn shape, but it did have the lip around the sign.
