What was the relationship between Shell and Conoco, particularly in the 1950's to the 1970's?

I have seen a few vintage pics of Conoco pumps with the "TCP" additive decal, the same one used by Shell.I had thought "TCP" was Shell only, but obviously not.

Also, on a few Shell and Conoco charge cards, the logos for both companies are displayed on the back, as well as a statement saying basocally that the card can be used at either station in the US or Canada.

In 1953 Conoco came out with "Super" gasoline with TCP. Conoco licensed the additive from Shell. I am not sure about any special relationship relating to credit cards.
