I got this sign off ebay just looking to be schooled did lots of reading before purchase so now for seller info.

The ebay seller did not have a lot of auto signs check. Seller did have other signs not related to the automotive industry that have no reproduction value. Seller did have other old stuff for sell not all junk. So I think seller is legit

Now my thinking on the sign I looked at known originals and fakes. I came to the conclusion that the real ones are a lighter shade of green and just look more clean so to speak in the letters. My thinking on the backside of the sign with the imperfections in green equals handmade the guy who made got some by mistake no one would see it and sent it down the line? what do you guys think?

Paint on the back is from when they repainted the pump at the station. It’s legit.

The ‘r’ in Sinclair is correct. Your sign is good.

However, you got lucky for an eBay pump plate purchase. Be careful in the future, most of them are fake. Ask someone next time, BEFORE buying.

Reproductions are getting better. Here is a sign currently on Ebay that is being sold as reproduction and the cursive lettering on the R in Sinclair looks the same as shown in the above picture from a real sign. Green color is darker than an original though...

If you look at these Sinclair pump plates long enough you’ll see the difference pretty quick. If you run a straight edge along the trailing edge of the “r” it is lower then the middle. An original vintage sign will have a drop to the trailing end of the “r”. All the repros I’ve seen do not have this slight dip in the end of the “r”. You did good! Here is an original:

You are correct. That's why I didn't get too specific.

Thanks I do understand about to much info being out there and people making better fakes. While also at the same time teaching the younger folks how to spot the real ones so they live on past us. I got some new finds and my yamahopper is alive 🛵
