A guy I know had this on his, and if I remember correctly, according to him, it was what was originally on the Texaco versions. Again my memory fades me, but I think this was an original stock banner on his.

“You can trust your car to the man who wears the star.”

Hope this helps.

-Steve

...the ones I've seen had messages where the letters were just closely-spaced holes punched into an opaque 'ribbon'...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

The original literature I have on them shows the punched tape. I’ve never seen that Texaco pump before and have been in on several discussions on these over the years. It might be a legit variation, who knows?

No, I’m sure you guys are right. I’m just going off of my memory, so I’m probably wrong smile

I remember him saying everything on top was original. Maybe he just meant the mechanics.

One of these days I’ll get back out to his place and see if I can confirm.

Thanks for clarifying guys,
Steve
