if the date is 1956 it is a fake,
texaco didn't use the
circle R trademark until 1959 .. ... cool

we have seen some anomalies with S/C signs
ie '59 and '60's
As a '56 it should not have a R --Randy is right
but..................

Could it be a 59 and is smeared to look like a 56....I have never seen Sky Chiefs with the SU-PREME before 1959.

Looking for Keystone,Pure,Sinclair,Texaco,Sterling and Gulf...Thanks, Brian

That is not correct--Texaco began using the additive
Petrox in the S/C(premium) gasoline in 1954

The actual date this was reflected on pump plates is
a whole other issue -that is why the '56 pump plate is
curious -

1959 Sky Chief plates don't have a trademark symbol on them. Isn't 3-3-56 the mark on those fake Diesel Chief 2 signs?

Can you post a better picture of the sign?

That my friend is the crux of this issue. When
Su-preme first appeared on signage(pps) it has always been accepted to be '59
However--if the plate that started this is in fact a "56 and
authentic .....There are/have been many anomalies in this business
of collecting. in over 50 yrs I have seen a few --also some parts of the US may have seen signs earlier than others --it happened -
that I can attest to having been with the company for over 30 yrs
I'd like to see a close up of the sign ----------

Do not have an answer-This whole discussion cannot be
advanced with out a close-up pic of the sign
I have suspicions, but I would not tell Kenr outright that it is a fake just yet It has been interesting none the less
