Wow, this is sad news. Prayer goes out to Dick's family, friends and all who are touched by his passing. He sold me a 24 inch adjustable wrench. It has come in handy many times and I always think of him when I use it.
May our lives glorify God,
Michael

I haven't been on in several days, and thought this must be a joke (one DB probably instigated himself). So deeply saddened that it is true. He was one of the first to offer help when I was new. His course exterior belied how generous he was if you were genuinely interested in learning and preserving. A depth of knowledge was lost that may never be replicated in petroliana collecting. Too soon gone my friend!

OMG! I happened to be talking with Hotcidr this evening and he told me the news about DB. What a tremendous loss as a friend and an asset to this hobby. I can't imagine Old Gas ever being the same without his candid perspective especially when it comes to repops but I'll especially miss his wiliness to help anybody solve a problem or give advise on a petro issue.

Rest in Peace my friend. Our prayers are with you and your family. God Bless.

Thanks for calling tonight, Rob. I'm a bit tongue-tied at the moment. He helped me a lot when I was active in the hobby. I did a couple of pieces for him. I also managed to see parts of the Santa Paula Airport with Dick which I enjoyed. My best to Judy. I know she will be busy and dealing with a lot. Talk soon. Dave Folck

Life and business have kept me off the list--just checking in once in a blue moon--and then I saw this. DB was one of the first to reach out and help me when I joined this list. I got him right away because he reminded me of some of my fellow animal caretakers I worked with at USDA, who by trying to get your goat, were really telling you they liked you enough to tease you. I hope I gave it back as well as I got it.

Reading all these messages just reinforces what some of us saw under that rough exterior, what a kind and generous man he could be. Judy, my husband Bob and I send you our deepest condolences...

Being a newbie here, my interactions with Mr. Bennett were few, but was able to see through his grumpy curmudgeon-like personna (:-)) to appreciate his dry sense of humor and wit.

May God bless and comfort his family...
