I just shipped these 11 Red Indian quarts back to their owners this afternoon after re-lidding them today. The owners had purchased them as flats. Someone many years back had cut the tops and bottoms off and cut them down the soldered seams to probably make quart sheets for patching material later on. They didn't get used and the new owners decided to make them back into round quarts. They rolled the sheets back into shape and then glued the two parts of the seam back together with an epoxy body panel adhesive and an overlapping metal strip on the inside. The owners also followed my suggestion of keeping the metal strip setback from the top and bottom edges since the lid will actually sit a bit inside the quart. My job was to remove the remains of the previous lids, put on new ones, run them through my lidding machine and do a final clean-up. I am pretty pleased with the results and I expect the owners will be too when the quarts arrive. It does take some work to accomplish but this shows it can be done. I might even try the rolling and gluing myself sometime. The last part of this job will be lidding a dozen previously flat Enarco quarts which should be here early next week. Always satisfying when things turn out the way you planned. Cheers, Don.

Buy a $500+ machine or a hand crank machine for around $100, fine tune it [might take several tries]. DO NOT use a can opener for removing old lids. LOTS OF BEER & a Hammer!
