I was browsing on feebay today & came across the images of these cans. I thought these cans looked familiar & low & behold they are my cans off of my web site. I contacted the seller & asked them who gave them permission to use the images of the cans off my site & that I was never asked if anyone could use them. The first link is to my site with the pic of the cans & the second is the ebay listing. Can I turn this seller in to ebay or would it be a waste of my time? http://petrobarn.com/barn/main.php/v/cans/IMG_2505.JPG.htmlhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Powerlene-PennEs...=item1e782e91f0

Nothing is sacred! Not even pictures we share on the internet. I put my name/I.D. on the bottom of pics all the time. I know cruel people can crop that off and do whatever they want. As a matter of fact I have seen other members use my photographs w/o my permission. What can you do?
Another example is the Non-Petro thread "Post a Random Picture." Many of the pics that members post here are not theirs. Next question is, did they have permission to use it? Just sayin'.
Sorry Brad, I have no prognosis for what you next step should be.

Ebay does not care about stolen images on items or lisitngs. They have the report feature but that is useless.

About five years ago a fellow OG member posted that he had found a neat website. I looked at it, it was someone in France and he had copied every page of my last Gas Pump Identification book and posted it on his website.
I see pictures taken from my book and website all the time, both here on OG and on Ebay. I always send the person a emial asking them pull it.

I believe this is why a lot of people quit posting pictures of there stuff here on the site. Sign of the times how can I do as little as possible and make the most money off of someone.

Brad I think you probably did the best thing you could by contacting the seller and asking questions. Next thing to do is watch it and when it sells ask for your Royalty fee!

BINGO!! Shawn.Your comment "a lot of people quit posting pictures of their stuff here on the site"is dead on.A few of us around here have what I think is true Category 5 stuff;Fewer than ten known to exist, and in some cases identified only by photographs.I think they will never be posted on here;I know mine won't.
That situation is,IMO,really sad because true collectors will never even know they exist. Some of them are worth $$$$ while others are not, which to me is of little importance because those pieces ARE history!!

I'd definitely click the Report link on the auction. If they don't have their own picture of the can, they may not have a can like that at all. So it could be a total scam.

I run a eBay store for a Very large company. Many people have stolen our images(watemarked ones too). I have reported it, contacted eBay on numerous occasions with no luck. They always tell you they will remove it. 1 out of 20 times an item will be removed. Coutless times items were relisted and the cycle continued with no action taken by ebay

When a picture with a watermark is reused, are the offenders simply doing what they can to remove the watermark? just curious...

I use two different watermarks, one created my by photo editing program, the other is a strip of paper with my website address going across the image. Takes a little time to remove the strip.

I would report it to ebay. The same exact thing happened to me, and within 24 hrs of reporting it to ebay, the auction was pulled. But, then again, this happened 10 yrs ago, I don't know if they are still as diligent.

Good idea Jack, the watermark is a good start, but that strip through the photo really makes it obvious....
