Not sure where to post this. I have been getting charged a fee on the " gift " option from paypal . Usually around $.89 . This just started recently . Any body know why or when it started? Maybe the sender is not doing something right ? Moderator --fell free to move this to the correct forum Thanks Roy

I have not experienced this, do you have a bank account connected to your paypal? Ever since I registered my bank account I have not had any issues with fees.
Could be the sender, not exactly sure how that works.

Jon , yes I have bank account connected. Seems like it might be connected to them paying with a credit card account instead of out of a paypal account. Except I did get a fee from one where the guy said he had $700 in his paypal account. I've had several guys here pay me gift without a fee , but this is a recent thing ,mostly from other sites. It may be something just changed , or they aren't doing it right. There is no way to contact a " voice " at paypal.

Here's what it says at the paypal Site: Send money online – it's easier than running to the ATM or writing a check, and perfect for just about any reason. •Settle up for a lunch bill •Pay friends back for concert or sports tickets •Chip in for a group gift
Plus, it's free for the sender and recipient in the US when you send using your bank account balance or PayPal balance.

The only time a Fee is charged on a Paypal Gift is when a credit card is being used by the person sending the money. They can either pay the Fee or they can pass the fee on to the recipient of the Paypal Gift. The sender has to click who is gonna pay the fee when a credit card being used.

I for one am more than willing to pay the tiny fee for the opportunity to get or send instant payments. Just the cost of doing business.

Did a gift purchase this week via paypal and no additional fees were charged ?
That's why they call it PAY PAL one way or another gone get ya !It will probably turn out just like EBAY .Rules change and change until you get sick of it .Make it hard for the little guy to get rid of them.Large accounts attract larger fees. And so it goes.
Wanted TEXACO related items & SUNOCO related items .Signs -Globes et'c. Oil Cans - Grease cans .

Thanks for the input . I think that the guys were using credit cards and didn't tell me. I have had many transactions with no fees . I was checking to see if they had a policy change without saying anything. Thanks again , Roy

It is interesting that some people want a company to perform services like credit card processing and money transfers for free. Interesting that a seller of an item requests for the buyer to lie on the Paypal form, saying that they are not buying goods but are instead sending a gift. Trading off integrity to save an 89 cent fee? Sad.

It will be a gift if you pay all the fees for some one.

I saw many ads with Paypal gift as payment. I do not ad paypal fees into the price , as many pay with check or money order. I do ask the buyer to pay the fee if he want's to use paypal. It's a service paypal offers , Used by many. I guess you're free to question my integrity , but I was just asking about the paypal system. My mistake. Feel free to remove the post , I got my answer. I enjoy your Forum , and no hard feelings intended. Thanks Roy

If it's occurring on this site and you are aware of it...then aren't you part of the problem?
Facilitator's should, shoulder some of the responsibility.
Does this bring into question the integrity of this site or just certain members?
Sad indeed!

Dave , I'm confused. I never questioned any ones integrity or this site . I just wanted to know if paypal was now charging a fee for gift transactions. Now I'm a bad guy because I asked. My mistake , wish I could take it back , but I can't delete , only the moderator can. I'm really a pretty good guy , I've sold many items here , everyone seems happy. I'm not looking to get in a ***** match, sorry if I stepped on some ones toes.

Roy, Sorry that I just assumed that you were trying to avoid fees by participating in sales which were reported as gifts. My mistake. Didn't mean to question the integrity of you or anyone else who is sending or receiving actual gifts.
I have noticed quite a few offers to sell where the offer included payment from the buyer via "Paypal as a gift." Haven't kept track of who the sellers were.

Roy, I'm sorry, if I made you feel like; I was engaging you. My comments were an observation based on Jim POTTS post.
