Just curious if a person were looking for a 6 foot Texaco sign would the year it was made affect the Value or would it mostly be the condition? I ask because I have a choice between a sign from 1936 which from reading on the history of the Texaco signage was the first year they used this logo and to me makes it that much more interesting and collectable, as far as condition I would say a 9+ as there is only a small chip in the T on both sides about the size of a pencil eraser, the other sign is a 1957 and is a 100% sign definetly a solid 10 with no chips or condition issues. What are your opinions?

I would go with the older one, in my opinion. The 50's texaco signs are common but I havn't seen too many from the thirty's

IMO if you are comparing a 9.5 with a 6.0 go with condition. If these two are that close in condition, take the '36.

I agree, go for the older sign. Fewer made as there were fewer stations.

I also would like to see a picture and I also say buy both. These signs just keep going up in price and if it's in really good shape that's even better!

Here are the Pics, I bought both but already sold the 57 to a neighbor so at least I'll be able to see it from time to time. I noticed after I got them home that the 36 only has 2 holes at the top for mounting, was this common for that year or Since it doesn't have the usual 8 mounting holes am I correct to assume its a pole sign and not from the Banjo style sign? Here is the 57, Here is the 36, Here are both side by side 36 on the left, 57 on the right. Pics of the Date stamps,

I thought it was an either/or. Didn't know both was an option, but you made the right choice. Those are in great shape!

Thanks Guys and Isn't that how it always goes? Plan for one thing and by the time your done it takes a U-haul to get it home! I did keep just one but if I want to see the other one I don't have far to go and it went a good home with a great guy who will enjoy it for a long time and that's a heck of a lot better that letting it sit in that old ratty building collecting dust and rust, and he was happy to finally get a sign for his garage.

Im thinking they look pretty good together. I like the deeper red of the 36 though. Awesome signs.
Hunt long and hard the good stuff still out there. Jonathan lowry.
