Never heard of Pierce Petroleum, there was a very old company here in St. Louis called Pierce-Pennant.

BTW, how tall is that pipe? Could this have been a base and pipe for a oil drain? Looks tall enough to have gone underneath a car (on a lift) to catch the oil during a oil change.

Jack, Someone added to the top of the pole, there's a joint about halfway down, you can see it in the picture.
The company was the successor to the Waters Pierce Oil Company which began in 1855. In 1924, the company became the Pierce Petroleum Corp. The company went out of business in 1940 and was acquired by Sinclair Oil.
