I am collecting and looking to verify information about Texaco Big Friends —-> A close friend of mine has a large private collection of Petroliana and Automotive signs and has passed a number of items onto me. One of the pieces that I am looking for more info on is this head from a Texaco Big Friendly statue. I know that they were made by International Fiberglass and Texaco commissioned 300 statues to be built with plans of making a total of around 3,000 in the mid 1960's. Then, due to a lawsuit, the 300 that were produced were ordered to be destroyed... Only a few were known to survive at that time and currently I can only verify the existence of two possible surviving pieces besides this head. Joe from usagiants.com has been an awesome help so far. Looking forward to see what else I can find out about this piece. THANKS!

I don't know anything about them. I do know of someone that has one standing in his yard between two Texaco signs. He's about 20 miles up the road from me.

I'll see if he'll allow me to take a picture of it & post it. They're about 25 - 28' tall best I can remember.

Here's a photo off of the net of one being used at a Texaco Service Station back in the day.
