This is marked EC which would be East Coastal as far as I can see. Stands 8' tall with a very heavy cast iron base like was and is used on railroad signals ect. It is double sided on top where the siren is located and has a electrical wire coming out and about halfway up the post is a manual button that you could push. My take is it was located beside the little shack between the tracks and probably dates to the 30s - 40s. I would appreciate any info on this if someone knows about it.

I haven't hooked it up yet but cant wait to hear how loud it is and what it sounds like. Just imagine it would have to be loud enough the engineer would have to hear it inside the locomotive...if that is what it actually was used for. Weighs about 150 lbs or so is my guess.

Carl,
It's a intercom that is used by railyard workers to communicate with the yardmaster up in a tower we still have yards where these are used on the Union Pacific the name plate is the initials of the railroad it came from.

It sets off a light on the yardmaster's Avtec screen which is a touch screen the size of a your normal computer screen with a bunch of different radio channels that will flash when the button was pushed or a code dialed into the radio on a train if you have ever seen a air control tower it's basically the same setup but for trains.
Once pushed the yardmaster or dispatcher will anwser these were pretty much the standard form of communication before handset radio's not used or seen much anymore but some locations still have them.
