The sign is faded and missing a big portion. It doesn't have any value to a collector. Decorating a restaurant, or bar, that's a different story. Just my opinion......

I'll have to remember that all faded and damaged signs are not worth anything to 'collectors'
seems like that really limits what 'collectors' will buy
I think I'm just going to continue selling my stuff to non-collectors then....maybe I'll have better luck
thanks for the tip

I do respect everyone's opinions just thought I'd post this link to couple signs I sold on auction in January. http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=62809&Number=393690#Post393690Even with damage I know signs have value to some and no value to others. thanks for your input on the sign I do appreciate it. and thanks to all who won't post in the thread but have PMd me with values and links to reference.

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

This thread shows why this hobby "WORKS"! Everyone has a different taste and/or opinion on any given piece, thereby creating a market for ALL of it! It also make it difficult to value something as "DIFFERENT" as a damaged sign because there aren't any comparables to reference to. Challenging, but fun and interesting hobby we have!

I, personally, feel that putting an appropriate value on a rough sign is one of the hardest things to appraise in this hobby.

What is it worth? The way I look at it is what is it worth to me. I could say it is worth $100 buck to somebody but I would not give that much for it. I collect Sinclair stuff so that is one strike against it in my book. Strike two is it is faded out, three is the big corner cut off of it and the sides cut. It is an interesting sign. If I were to buy it I would hang it up in a corner of my shed out back or give it to my buddy to sell in his antique shop. I would not spend over $40 or $50 for it. It is hard to place a value on damaged items like this. A common Dino pump plate normally sells at the shows for around $100. A common Mobil pump plate around $200. Common Gulf pump plates $60 or so. Items like this are easier to put a value on because they turn up and are sold pretty often. You may get your $1000 for it, it only takes finding the right person?

Until Randy posted his sign, MOST Members had NO IDEA how much was missing/cut off.
