I'm pretty much the luckiest guy in the world I think. I am one of the biggest car nut/gearhead guys around without a car since I sold my Dart in '97. I missed having a hotrod terribly,so getting into gas pumps, signs, etc which goes hand in hand with cars was the next best thing. After moving back into Saskatoon last year, I was able to get together with friends, meeting for breakfast Sat. mornings, going to carshows, show and shines, just tagging along and hanging around just to be around cars because I wasn't able to for quite a while. It was fun, but tough, not having wheels. All of my friends kept saying "we gotta get you a car". Well I agree, but money just isn't there right now. Fast forward to yesterday, (sunday). I get a call from one of the guys I hang around with, he asked if I could come down to his shop and give him a hand at something, I said "no problem" and headed down there. I go into the shop and there is about 12 people there standing around a 1961 Chev Biscayne. These people bought this car, drove over 2 hours north of Saskatoon to get it, worked on this car pretty much every night for the past 2 weeks to get it running and driving, and GAVE me this car. Gave me this car so I could participate in the show and shines, cruises, etc, to be a part of the group, kinda like our own version of Overhaulin'. What a class act of people I hang out with. As for the car, it's a project, it's running and driving, it's a 1961 Chev Biscayne 4 door sedan, 6 cyl, 3 on the tree. Actually the body is quite decent, front floors need replacing the front fender eyebrows have rust, the rest of the car is straight and solid. I don't care that it's a "more door" it's still cool and I have a lot of plans for this car, and it will be one cool '61 4-door. Again, once I get a camera I will post pics of the progress of this project as it develops. Anyways, thanks for letting me tell this story, I feel quite blessed to have such good friends as these people. Everyone have a good night. Ken.

That is a wonderful story of friendship. Wish the world had more of that and less self-centered activities.

Thanks for the comments everyone, yes, they are great friends. I don't like to bore anybody with my life, but this blew me away so much that I felt that I had to share this story. Joe, I won't be bringing it out there this year, but it will eventually get out there for you to see, and I will have a full report to you in May when I get out to see you. Thanks again everyone. Ken.

Ken, your story brings back great memories. The first new car that I bought was a 61 Chev. 4 door, 6 cyl., 3 speed. While cleaning out drawers awhile back, I ran across the original sales slip. Price was $2438. Options I that I bought were: heater- $74.25, oil filter-$9.15, radio- $53.80, back-up lights-$12. It was a great running car, ran it for 7 years & traded it on new one for a lot more money! Sam

Kevin, you hit the nail on the head, I just can't say enough about these people. Sam, thanks for that info, that's cool as mine has pretty much the same options on it, I would imagine the prices would have been a bit different up here. Alex, yes they said it came from Redwing? I hadn't heard of it, the fellow they bought the car from is around the 45 to 50 year old range and I guess he is into oil and gas as well. They said he had quite an Esso collection. I will find out his name and let you know. It'll probably be this weekend as we usually get together sometime during the weekends. Later everyone. Ken.
