I was finally able to get away from work this weekend, so I drove up to the Colorado Rail Road Museum in Golden. I've been wanting to get up there for a ride for quite some time. The weather Saturday was perfect.
Heres Number Seven preparing for departure.
Motorman, Al Blount was kind enough to honor me with the "Shotgun" position
I was so excited about being up front, that I forgot to shoot more pictures. I did however, get a bit of video though.
You're right Jim. Its a 1926 Pierce Arrow. It was split down the middle, and widened in the rear, to fit more passengers. They were built by the Rio Grande Southern (RGS) shop in Ridgeway Colorado, during 1931. The PUC mandated that the RGS had to continue mail & passenger service, even though the routes were not profitable. So the shop made seven of theses units, which were much cheaper to operate, than a regular steam train.
It was original engine was used, however, through the years some of the engines have been replaced. In fact even the car bodies have been replaced with Wayne bus bodies, on some of the units.
