...and now that ebay (in a stroke of pure genius, or maybe a fit of greed) has made it impossible to contact other ebayers (unless you're buying/selling with them) more and more of this krap is going to happen...too bad...what can you do other than e-mail the poor schmuck after the auction's over and ruin his day...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Ha! You CANNOT email the poor schmuck "winner" even after the auction is over unless you were bidding for the item yourself. He's just "bidderx" to the rest of us.
In their infinite wisdom, eBay protected their profits but prevented honest communication to the sheep of the world. It's certainly "let the buyer beware" today.

Any of you oldgassers live near the San Francisco area?? Does anyone know any reporters for the newspaper. Do you know anyone (more than one is better) who has bought a fake item of ebay? If you can bring those three elements together and get a story written, it goes a long way to capture the corporate attention. Lots of work, but well worth it.

Dundign just so happened to have bought my Signal motor oil sign a few weeks ago. I emailed them to let them know and get their $$$ back if they haven't paid??? I then invited them to join us at OLDGAS "AGAIN" as they are avid collectors and we try to keep an eye on repops and ebay!!! I invited them to join back when they bought my sign!!! They PROBABLY would NOT have bought the cities service had they listened??? I hope they listen this time?

Morning all. I heard back from the seller of this sign, of course quite a bit after the auction ended. lol He along with everyone else who sells a questionable sign, it seems to me, is selling it for a third party who assured him that this and all the other signs are orginial. He then points out to me that the signs he is selling are weathered and his pressed signs are of a better quality than the reproduction signs on ebay. Between him and that other guy, the one who said leave it out in the weather so it will look old, our hobby seems to be in good hands. Maybe they should think about going into business with each other. Call themselves, maybe..... The Fraud Team? Seems a catchy moniker to me. No remorse for selling a repo sign, just laughing all the way to the bank. Bob

Here's what the seller said to me:
Thank you for your comment about the signs I have listed being reproductions. However, I do not already know that. I am selling these signs for someone else and he has told me they are original. I have not claimed to be nor am I an expert regarding vintage signs. I have seen reproduction signs of these same type and can say that the signs I am selling are manufactured with a better grade of material that any reproduction I have ever seen. So, I have taken the word of the owner. What information can you offer me that would help me to determine they are not original? Thank you.
Got Socony???
Tom
