Looking at a solid pump that is total surface rust. I know that look has it's place, but current thinking has me after just a bit of vintage looking color.
The plan would be a light dusting of flattened color, followed by light sanding to desired patina, and finish up with rusty decals.

On a pre-visible I am guessing color schemes we pretty basic back in the day black, red, white......Were they even 2 tone ?

Any advice or photos would be helpful, especially during the pre-visible era.

Best to find out/research your specific model pump to see what brands used it and go from there if you're wanting to keep it authentic in that sense then you can obtain the correct signage & markings, have paint matched to that and apply the finish you desire.

But take good pics because everyone likes pics.
