I imagine the evaporust would clean this up nicely. But, should it be done?

I understand the dilemma but.......a little, gentle clean up with Bar Keepers Friend is what I know I would do. Obviously not all will agree

Obviously not all will agree The problem I have with BarKeepers on pained signs like this, the color is very delicate and any rubbing at all and color starts to show up on the rag which means your pulling it off the sign.
