I recently bought this can and funnel from a friend of mine. I initially thought someone just made the funnel at some point out of a can but the funnel is a thicker tin than the oil can. My friend thought there were a couple of companies that made funnels like this back in the day. I can’t find anything online about it. Thanks for any help!

I do not know if oil companys MADE funnels but I know my Father-In -Law had a large funnel by his gas barrel that was stamped SINCLAIR and was used when filling his tractors.

Marathon gave away these "dispos-a funnel" & somewhere I have a plastic one. I used to own a Sinclair one that had a can punch inside.

I’ve seen the Sinclair ones around. I found a pic of one that I’m talking about.... it’s one that Dan Pumpdoc had for sale a while back.
As far as the Red Bell funnel posted above, I almost guarantee that was made from a can. It probably just feels stronger because of the shape it was formed into. All of the letters are in the same spot as the can. And if it really was an advertising piece, back then, they would’ve put the full name of the product and logo on there in a smaller size, so it fit on the funnel.
Also note that anywhere there is a bend the paint is missing (the rolled top, the seam, and the spout), which means it was made from a previous product.
Still a very cool piece in my opinion.

Sinclair had both a 1 and 5 quart funnel as shown above. They had a pointed punch inside that would pierce the can when it was put in. Other companies also had some.

Thanks for all the info on this. Now that I know what I have, I decided to sell it and I am open to offers. Please look for it in the “offer” section.

I doubt that any oil company ever made a funnel, just like they never made a gas pump. It would be very cost effective to try and make anything like this, they probably ordered them from a supply company and had they name stamped on them.
