Good Morning Everyone,

Hot one here today with heat index going up over 100 expected. I'll be out in the morning but plan to be in the AC during the heat of the day. Got company coming in 2 weeks and my petro room could use some straightening up and cleaning.

We had a nice road trip last week in southern Illinois and across the Ohio River to Paducah. Here is a pic of me at a mural painted on the Paducah flood wall with panels depicting the history of the area spread over several blocks.

We had an eventful trip home yesterday from our cabin in Northern Wisconsin. Areas near us received over 11 inches of rain in 1 day, with lots of rain the day before as well. Roads are all washed out and travel is near impossible. We ended up driving about an hour south in order to head west then back north again. There was one stretch of road where we drove through about 12-15 inches of water covering the road for about a half mile. I was not concerned about the road washing out as it was just a low spot where the swamps overflowed covering the road.

We too have a hot, hot day ahead of us. Was going to cut the grass but by the time I walked out to the shed I was completely soaked, so I turned around and went back into the shop. The grass has waited a couple of days to be cut an another day or two is no big deal, at least to me.

I see Jim found some cabinets for his auto body collection, I was thinking a two gallon can. Ryan, glad to hear you made it home safely, upper Michigan got slammed also with a lot of serious damage from the rain. This year with the rain is truly troublesome.

Morning all. Hot here like most everywhere else in the midwest. I was up early this morning to replace a couple of high bay lights in the shop. Even at seven thirty this morning the heat up in the attic was about more than I wanted. When I built the shop fourteen years ago I installed metal halide high bay lights that I bought cheap from a local high school that had just pulled them out of their gymnasium. Over the years those things have proved to be not so cheap as I was constantly replacing bulbs and ballasts in them, not to mention the 400 watts times 8 that burned when they were on. I finally decided to start replacing them with new high bay LED's but I have to do it a couple at a time to avoid the sticker shock. The big LED replacements are close to $200 each now (which is quite a bit less than they were when they first come out) but they are supposed to last for years and only burn 115 watts each. I'm half way there with replacing the old ones and the new LED's are sure an improvement. Ryan, sounds like the rain was crazy up north. I haven't been paying attention so wonder if they got that much up on Lake of the Woods around our cabin? It's been a few years since we had a flooding rain there but when it happens our road to the cabin is two feet underwater for a while.Got stranded in there for a week once with only boat access to civilization, which really wasn't a bad thing for me.... Northern MN did not get near the rain as around here and east of here. My dad is fishing right now up by the border and he said everything is pretty much normal.

Afternoon all. Glad you got home Ryan, we got 13 in. in one day 2010 I think and its referred to as the 100 year flood. So we don't have to ever worry about that again--Right??

Same old weather report only difference I don't handle the heat as well, I think about the years I spent in a tire factory curing dept. with 100 plus year round temps and wonder how or better still why. LOL!
There wasn't the baking sun which really makes a difference. I guess.

I'm the birthday boy today 61 years young.

Sounds like a wild trip, Ryan. Glad you got home safe. We saw some serious flash flood damage in the UP in the news.

One word sums it up...HOT
Other than that, not much going on. Was nice to see the progress on my Wayne 866 at Dad's yesterday. The addition of the deco globe holder turned out really well. It will be nice to see it on there when it's done as it was formerly a non-globe unit.

Les, I guess you gotta invest in a mower with a real good headlight. : D
Gary--if you use a light meter, you may find you also need less lights with the LED's to get the same luminosity as the halides (well--anyway I know it works when replacing old fluorescents). Less units = less $$$. If I remember correctly (but I'm old, so my memory fails me a lot) the halides send off some heat, so your AC bill should go down.
Darin, are you going to tease us with that without pictures?

Ahhhhhhhhh - just heard on the evening news that the heat index tomorrow in southern Maryland will be 100. Lovely. Hope the AC holds out!
