For this months pump of the month I let my brother choose what pump to do. He wanted to go with a Tokheim 34. These pumps seem to be pretty hard to find, but have such a unique design! What a perfectly designed pump! This was Tokheim's first computer pump, and they took the early 8" Veedor Root computer. The pump came with an embossed logo on the bottom of each panel. Only the originals have the embossed logo on the bottom. Reproduction panels will not have the embossing unless they are specially done. Tokheim 34's came with two different face designs, display case pump with two different styles of cases, or even with a flashing lighted advertising panel on the pump.

-Tokheim 34: 1934-1937. Original cost was $225 for the standard pump or $240 for the display case model. (If only a $15 difference was all it took to get a display case one now!!! LOL)

This information above is credited to Jack Sim and his pump book.

Please everyone show your 34's of all kinds and any information you might have on them. As I am always learning something new everyday. Thank you!

Here's a few before & after pics of a 34 I just finished restoring for a good friend of mine. Super cool pump for sure, love the Deco style embossed area at the bottom of each panel. My friend chose the Polly branding, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Working on his Tokheim 850 pump now.

Pretty rough looking pump but fairly complete.

After my restoration handy work in my shop and in it's final new home along side some cool air meters. Just the white hose to add to compete the pump.

This is my other one. Some day I will get the bottom half painted. It is in an area in my garage where it is hard to get pictures.

I bought one of the early type showcase pumps several years ago and I was lucky enough to find a pair of the lighted glass display panels and I converted the pump over to that by adding the panels and a flasher unit inside the body of the pump. I recently sold it to Jack Brown out in New York.

Here is my 34. I've owned it for 15 years and it has found a home in the corner of my garage.

Just want to mention one thing not mentioned here yet. Let's study bases. I own an original display pump and have owned many regular 34s. My display pump has a taller base like Kevin Frith's display pump. Also if you look at Done4 s Esso pump you will notice it has one of these special bases. So was Done4s pump originaly a display pump or did Tokheim run the different casting for let's say one year so they are not common? Also my display pump has a shorter visigage on it. Still the same type but just shorter, maybe only on the display pump ? Never seen that on my regular 34 pumps. Dick Bennett came over once and he also commented that these two traits might have been only on the display version.

Rob, thank you. I had often wondered if the base was the correct one. When I got it I didn't realize that the base was different till some time later and did not know it was used on display case pumps. Thanks agin.
