I have been asked to give a talk about the gas station painting I did of a 1930's era gas station...but when I tried to find the reference photos of the signs I put on the porch, I could not find them.

I know I am not the only one who every once in a while tries to purge extra images from their files, but it seems I was a little bit premature to have deleted the references for this painting. I also seem to have deleted (or cannot find) the larger images of the painting as well which is why the images I am posting here are small.

This is the only distinctive sign that I can't make out--and because the scale was so small, I did not attempt to paint the words. But it is distinctive--and if I remember a gentleman with a hat and a steering wheel in his hand.

Any ID (and image if you have it) would be welcome!
Nicole

Thanks Bob - I've lightened it a little. It's hard to get rid of some of the old stuff, lots if interesting information and also memories with pms from DB and OldIron.

BTW I am wondering if it was a cigarette ad. Anyway I am probably asking for the impossible, but I thought the silhouette might be recognizable.

Lucky Strike cigarette ad. I believe the man would be holding a tobacco leaf, not a steering wheel. Ive seen that ad before but cant quite put my finger on it.

Your sign is probably related to this ad that's for sale on eBay. 172665147312

I do believe you are right that it's a Lucky Strike sign. I remember picking it to have some variety of color on the porch. I thought it would read well from a distance.

Just spent an hour trying to find it on line.

I guess I learned a lesson--keep those references 'cause you never know.

Thanks all...

I also looked for a while and didn't find anything.

On a side note, does anyone know why when I cut and paste ebay item numbers in their search box, sometimes they work and other times not (I make sure there are no spaces, etc)?
