I bid using proxibids platform because I like it better than Morphys new platform. I bid live on one item and had proxy tell me I won it and then say an in house bidder won it for the same price I bid. I had this happen in previous auctions. So I left bids on 6-7 items, as I had other obligations, and logged off. When I returned I pulled up my proxy page which shows what I bid on, what I bid and what it sold for. Well I'll be damned if two items sold for the same as my bid to an in house buyer. Mind you I placed these bids hours before the in house bids took place. This is straight up bull ***** and in house favoritism. Along with the increasing premium, the whole experience has soured me from wanting to continue doing business with Morphys. I have been their customer for probably 10 yrs. But when there is such blatant disregard, it's time to pull the plug.

Tom, I totally agree with you on this subject,
there's too much "manipulation" by this auction house
sellers & buyers alike are better off dealing privately
they have no regard for either seller or buyer.. ...

Can't tell you how many times this has happen to me, they don't care. Guess they feel if you made the auction in person, then you should get it.

Its not that straight forward as the "floor wins". I lost an item a while ago with the same circumstances except I put my bid in two weeks ahead. The auctioneer recognized the floor bid as equal to mine and therefore the later bid was given precedence over mine. Like in the IP letter above the only bid where that happened was on the final bid. In other words all bids before were recognized in a logical step wise fashion. When I phoned to inquire I was told the same..."floor bids have precedence".
I still bid there. Where are you going to find some of those items?

I like Dan but Morphys is horrible, I never buy from them or Mecum. I like Glenn millers auctions, Girrard, and love the 15%bp at Rory Brinkmanns auctions.

I also got burnt on that . Have known the owner of auction house for years but he does not like any bids that are not in the room . Left a couple of bids due to the fact I could not get off work that day and found out latter the items sold just under my bid . So I give up on Internet biding.

Auction houses love the fact that the internet can boost prices, but also love the fact that the person in the room can deliver an instant payday minus the hassle of shipping an item or waiting to see IF a buyer will pay. 9 times out of 10 they will take the in house buyers money. Hooray internet!

There is no way for the auction house to prevent this from happening. They take bids from LiveAuctioneers, Proxibid, Ebay, Auctionzip, their own platform, and then live day of the auction bidders. Those pre-bidding systems don't communicate with each other. So if the auctioneer is working two floor bidders he is going to see hands in the room go up before he is going to get a notification from a computer clerk running a system. You can't take it personally. If you don't want to miss out then you need to bid live. There is no way around it.
