I can't figure this one out, hoping for some thoughts and opinions from others. Red flags for me were size (16"x 2"/38) and made by a can company ?? also writing looks sloppy ?

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

That's interesting. It's not marked like a 30's Texaco sign should be. I also wonder the application for the sign. Havoline rack signs from the 30's were standardize by the time "Waxfree" campaign started. It's only one sided, and racks signs were always two sided.

Waxfree campaign started in the early 30's. That's the reason why Texaco purchased Indian refining. Havoline's earlier tackers were much larger. By the time Waxfree was introduced Texaco and earlier Indian weren't using tackers.
