Was wondering if anybody knows any history on this sign, like approximate date produced, etc, for this John Deere metal sign that is 36" in length and 12" in height with the standard marking of 'veribrite signs Chicago' on the lower right. Back of sign is black. Maybe tin is the metal. Anyways, Here is the ebay number and link. Please let me know what you think. I have seen 2 of these before sell on ebay and it looks like a super cool sign that doesn't circulate often. I usually only see the larger John Deere porcelain ones that display this company logo. Anyways, wanted to know more about it in case one came around. Thanks ebay number: 321752608235

That was a repop machine laid out sign.
I laughed when I saw the veribrite name right under the 'S'. If I'm not mistaken they only did porcelain. And most of the time their logo is so close to the edge of a sign it often got damaged and becomes partially unreadable.

If they are doing reproductions using an identical manufacturer mark, then almost nobody will be able to tell the difference anymore. Never heard of reproductions doing that. That's like finding a coke sign with Robertson on the bottom right and then finding out its a fake. If you are correct then I don't see any purpose to a manufacturer mark anymore.

I don't see how anyone would know if its fake or not unless they had a book saying they only did porcelain signs.. I see many are for sale for thousands and they are not porcelain. If this was a fake repo there would be a whole lot more than 2 of them ever seen before on ebay (worthpoint reference) and the marking of the company name is spot on. I have never seen a repo of this dimensions before either. Who the hell knows but you are just guessing it seems like to me.

Too many red flags. Red flag #1. That sure looks like an aluminum sign. No rust and the scratched areas are silver. Red flag #2. I'm not 100% sure but I thought Veribrite just made porcelain signs. Red flag #3. If the sign on ebay was original, why didn't it sell for anywhere near what original John Deere signs sell for?

BULL!!!!!!!!!!!
If you would actually do some research; the 'net can answer your questions, very easily... (it took me less than 20 secs. to find the link, I posted above)
And for the record... Farm implement signs "ARE NOT PART" of the Petro Hobby!
Neither are: Soft Drink items, Juke Box items, Garage Sale items, Country Store items, General Advertising items, Automotive items ... Etc...

Repop's can be found with and without mfg names it all depends on who is making them. Overseas mfg especially are bad about this and being wary is the first step to educating yourself on mint signs and signs where the typical location for mfg information has been 'chipped'. BTW, There are even re-pressed pieces coming from Stout who made originals, but you can tell the difference because of the metal used and the change in the mfg information.

Yes, it is... When you used the phrase "there is so much to know about this hobby and the internet is useless for info on this"...
I assumed, and maybe wrongly, that you were grouping all advertising signs into the Petro Hobby...
Here on Oldgas, we see on a regular basis... All different avenues of Collecting in the Petro Forums... There have been discussions where Members have thought that Soft Drink, Country Store, General Advertising, Automotive... etc.. were "part of" the Petro Hobby...
If I was wrong in my assumption, I apologize...

wow- you are one rude fellow Bob Richards.. copping an attitude for no reason just cause my question isn't related to a gas item. If you don't have anything nice to say why don't you keep it to yourself.. nobody needs you spreading your misery pal. You will never catch me asking for your advice.. I'd rather be stuck with a fake.
