What is your all's opinion on the authenticity of this sign?
Sign is 12" and has a black back.

Thanks
Dan

pictured below is the Real McCoy: ... cool

reasons I voted fake,
1. black back
2. top gromment is right of L
3. border between sinclair & Oils
is equal between stripes
4. outside white border same as green stripe
beside it
5. center borders are equal

I honestly can't decide... the back is a tad worrisome, but its not like there wasnt sign mfgs that didnt use black backs. if its fake, its a darn good one.

to play devil's advocate to Randy's post, here is one posted in the BOTY from Wes Maxwell - who I would consider a Sinclair expert... notice the grommet location is the same in relation to the L, but more centered on the border line.

A good friend of mine has one as well. Grommet same location as the one I posted.

Bryce I agree the back is not the end of the world when it comes to signs.

Wow talk about a tough call! I see the placement of the 12 O'clock grommet and the thickness of the boarders being different between the two signs. I would say weigh them and compare. But keep it through private message, as lurkers will try to take that vaulable information for making more accurate repops.

I'm no expert but like stated above the outer border looks thicker and the lettering on the oils look different to me also the top looks bolder and thicker the other two have a cleaner look

So if it is fake, who sells the 12" green and white ones?
Can't find any dealers. I would expect to find them retail. Can't even find one sold on eBay minus one that sold at an auction with a grey back.
Can in other sizes BUT the green is black on the repop ones I have seen.

I have owned 3 over the years. It looks okay to me but all of the ones I have owned had a gray back with rack marks.

Real.

The backs come in a variety of colors and some signs are noticeably thicker than others.

50-60s era signage

I voted fake. So much for the outcome of the poll as it seems people will still believe what is in their own best interest to believe.

This doesn't make sense Dave. Believe what is in there best interest???
This was a poll about what people think. Not an item that was for sale or personal gain. Sign is very tough to show real or fake difference on this specific item

Am I missing your point?
Dan
